Our history

The texture of each brick is unique. The preparation of clay for bricks manufacturing is done in six steps. We need pure clay and as the top layer of soil may contain impurities, the clay in the top layer of soil about 200mm deep is thrown away. This is called unsoiling. After the removal of the top layer, the clay is dug out from the ground and spread on the ground. The clay is cleaned of stones, vegetable matter etc. If a large quantity of particulate matter is present, then the clay is washed and screened. The lumps of clay are converted into powder with earth crushing rollers. This clay is then re-hydrated and hand shaped into the classic brick shape you know and love.

The moulds are rectangular in shape and made of wood or steel which are opened at the top and bottom. The longer sides of moulds are projected out of the box to serve as handles.

The bricks are arranged in such a way that circulation of air in between the bricks is free. The period of drying may be 3 to 10 days. It also depends upon the weather conditions. The drying yards are also prepared on higher level than the normal ground for the protection of the bricks from rain water.

Finally, the bricks are fired in an oven and left once more to cool. Only 1 in 100,000 bricks are of a high enough quality to become one of our Deluxe Bricks™. The rest are used in construction projects all around the world.

BrickBlog

When I began my apprenticeship as an Artisan-Mason, the last place I imagined showcasing my work was on the dazzling stage of London Fashion Week. Yet there I was, walking into the iconic venue, clutching my unconventional muse: a humble Brick™.

Masonry has long been seen as a trade grounded in tradition, but as I worked with my hands, crafting and shaping stone, I realized that each piece held potential far beyond its practical purpose. A brick, solid and steadfast, represents structure and stability—but could it also symbolize style?

This idea became my passion project. I began by sketching designs that blurred the line between form and function. The brick I chose wasn’t just any ordinary slab of clay and mortar. It was a hand-molded, kiln-fired masterpiece with a warm, terracotta glow. Truly the apex of our products.

The final creation—a sculptural clutch bag—combined the industrial grit of masonry with high fashion aesthetics. It was heavy, yes, but it had presence. My pièce de résistance wasn’t just a bag; it was a statement: a celebration of the beauty found in overlooked materials and traditional craftsmanship.

I had no idea how it would be received at London Fashion Week, but the reaction was electric. Designers marveled at its boldness, photographers couldn’t get enough of its shimmer under the spotlights, and one model even insisted on carrying it down the runway. The buzz was exhilarating.

This experience taught me that creativity has no boundaries. As a trainee, I’m used to diving into the North Yorkshire Moors and digging for clay, but this time, I built a bridge—between tradition and innovation, between the everyday and the extraordinary.

So here’s to the underdog, the overlooked, the humble brick. It has taken me places I never dreamed of going, and I can’t wait to see where it leads next.
